What is this thing we call life? No science, theory, or formula will ever be able to explain exactly what it is. I believe that life as a whole will never be completely understood, however I believe that if we try looking at the world with an open mind, and unbiased perspective, we can attempt to gain a sense of purpose, and comfort. Rene` Descartes is the one philosopher which I believe does this the best.
I believe in God. Do I claim to know who or what God is? Absolutely not. However, I believe that simply being appreciative, thankful, and aware of the life we have been given is the best form of worship. To try and put a name on God, or to even describe it, brings God to a human level, which in turn makes it ungodly. The fact that people and scientists are still trying to prove and disprove the existence of God is mind-boggling. If God could be scientifically proven, then nothing in this universe could makesense, even more so than it already doesn’t. The fact that God cannot be proven nor disproven is enough proof in my eyes that in fact there is one. I feel that my beliefs and thoughts on God tend to compare to those of Rene’ Descartes. Descartes uses simple and rational examples to show that there is something more to this life. The idea that
something cannot come from nothing is as basic of a fact than any in science. In his Causal Arguments on God, he uses the example of a hot stove and boiling water. Water cannot simply just boil. It must have the right amount of heat, a cause (Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy Rene` Descartes: Overview 5).
